Dan Mullen and the Florida Gators have flipped one of the top safeties in the 2020 recruiting cycle. Under Armour All-American and four-star safety Mordecai McDaniel announced he has verbally committed to the University of Florida. McDaniel flipped his commitment from the Tennessee Volunteers to the Florida Gators. The Florida Gators have the sixth ranked recruiting class in the country. Mordecai McDaniel is the 24th commit in the Florida Gators 2020 recruiting class. He’s the eleventh defensive commit in the class. He’s the seventh defensive back in the class with Avery Helm, Jahari Rogers and Fenley Graham, Tre’Vez Johnson, Rashad Torrence II and Ethan Pouncey.
Who is Mordecai McDaniel?
Mordecai McDaniel is a four-star safety out of St. John’s College High School in Washington D.C. The newest Florida commit has received a lot of interests from some of the top schools in the country. During his recruitment, McDaniel has received 17 offers from some of the top schools in the country. McDaniel had offers from schools like Alabama, Florida, LSU, Michigan, Notre Dame, Oklahoma Penn State and Wisconsin. McDaniel was also one of the highest ranked recruits in his recruiting class. On 247 Sports, McDaniel is the 204th ranked recruit and the 15th ranked cornerback in the country. On ESPN, McDaniel is the fifth ranked recruit out of D.C. and the 33rd ranked athlete in the country.
Mordecai McDaniel is a 6’1” 195 pound safety. McDaniel is a terrific athlete with top-end speed. He’s a very physical safety that plays very well running downhill. He’s comfortable playing close to the line of scrimmage and can blitz. McDaniel is also an excellent option to have on special teams as a gunner or returner. McDaniel has still pretty raw but he has the tools to be a good safety at the next level. Florida needs safeties badly and they just got a good one Mordecai McDaniel. This is a great pickup for Todd Grantham and the Florida Gators defense.
